Artist's Statement: Within their paintings, Joss explores the inevitability and force of change. Deep shadows interact with pockets of saturation and detail within these shifting environments. There is a sense of living and dying, an expression of ever-changing worlds-within-worlds. Joss questions the perceived certainty of our realities, and paints with a sense of emotion and ambiguity.

Joss Rio Johnson is a painter in their final year of their BFA, and is drawn to the surreal and ephemeral facets of our existence. Their paintings are visual explorations of elements of nature, cycles, birth, life, chaos, death, and regeneration. Joss interprets this evasive subject matter through saturated colours and exploratory brushstrokes.
