Artist's statement: As an artist, I particularly love to play with the absurd in my pieces and bring an electric, colourful look to my emotionally darker-themed work. I use primarily acrylic and oil paint on canvas, as well as found objects in my paintings. I believe my intense upbringing gives me a unique edge and often inspires me to change the meaning of seriousness, taking heavy themes and trying to colour them—an ironic twist, a playful tone—to taking silly things, and giving them a darker approach.

Florence Huot is a French-Canadian artist whose work explores absurdism through vibrant colour contrasted with darker, heavy themes. Working primarily with acrylics, oils, and found objects, she blends humour and darkness to challenge the seriousness of art. Her vivid, playful pieces reinterpret heavy themes with wit, energy, and emotional depth.
