Vibrant
Deborrah Corr
My daughter is still dead
on this day
when I lift a petal
from the sidewalk
and try to locate the flower
from which it fell. I don’t know
how to say
its color—a red so deep
it purples then pinks
toward its tip that looks dipped
in white ink.
I stroke its velvet skin,
keep it clutched
between my fingers,
because
how can the world let go
of a vibrancy like this.
